It's great to be back in Salem!
It’s great to be back in Salem. We left Ketchikan Wednesday evening about midnight on the ferry. In the morning we woke up at 6:15 in Prince Rupert, Canada. Thursday we drove to Huston, which had received 3+ feet of snow recently, and slept on the floor of the Vineyard church. They fixed us a great supper, and provided breakfast too. Friday we drove to Caribou Christian Fellowship in 108 Camp. They too fed us dinner and breakfast. Saturday we drove to Sedro Wooly. I don’t know the name of the fellowship there, but Arlene and Don were the couple who hosted dinner for us, and then several families took us home for a hot shower and sleep! After breakfast in the morning we met back at Arlene and Don’s and drove Sunday to Salem. We arrived around 4:30 p.m.- a long trip, but the fellowship was sweet, and the wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ who stepped up to provide hospitality were truly a blessing!
As we look over the past two weeks in Hydaburg, Craig, and Kowalk, I see where God is interested in the individual. One afternoon we got a call to go to Craig to pray for a widow named Rachael. She shared how her son had taken over the family fishing boat, but had lost the summer’s work because of mechanical trouble. He was ready to tow the boat on open seas back to Craig, and she was quite concerned for his physical welfare. Kerry, our outreach leader interviewed Rachael, and asked her if there were any people that she was withholding forgiveness from. After some prayer she admitted that there were two people whom she needed to forgive and bless. Then we prayed! During our prayer time the son called and told her that he was changing his mind, and putting the boat in dry dock. A few minutes later some family came and told her that they would go the hundred miles, and tow the boat back. We got word a few days later that the boat was back safely in Craig.
On Monday night the 30th, we went to Kowalk to pray with some believers there. We started out with about 5 people, then two more came in. This couple had found out that their son was in jail, and falsely accused of something. They also said that they had been praying for their son to return to obedience to God. It seemed to me that the words of Joseph in Genesis 50 applied to this situation. “What you meant for evil, God meant for good.” We prayed that God would use this “captivity” to draw the son back to Himself. The mother and father received this word, and began to praise God for answering their prayer. They had a heavy burden lifted from their shoulders, which resulted in much praise to God.
We will miss the people of “Prince of Wales” and Ketchikan. We were treated royally, stuffed with halibut, salmon, venison, shrimp, and crab. Not the typical “outreach” menu.
Please join us in praise to God for effective ministry, safe travel, and His abundant provision. Please continue to pray with us for the church of Hydaburg. They are few, and isolated. Pray that they would press on and follow Jesus in this difficult time. Pray too that they would reach out to their hurting neighbors with the love and hope that comes from knowing God as Lord and Savior. Galatians 6:9-10 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
Carol and I want to thank you for standing with us in prayer for this outreach. It was a privilege to be used of God for these precious people. We are so grateful for our praying friends and family. We will be meeting with the staff here in Salem this week, praying and discussing our future with YWAM. We covet your prayers for us during this time of decision.
