Lykins Update – January 7, 2007

Dear Loved ones,
Happy New Year!  We need to start our first update of
2007 with an address correction:

Fred and Carol Lykins
C/O YWAM Salem

Salem, OR  97317

Phone: (503) 951-0060 (free in-calling if you are a
Verizon customer)

We love hearing from you so please check your info
(especially the street number).

I pray that you all had a joyous Christmas celebration
with your families! We spent two days in Portland with
our children and grandchildren, then went to Carol’s
folks in Buckhorn, CA for Christmas. They had a house
full, and were gracious hosts!

On the way home we got to visit with Keith and Cindy
Wilson, (childhood friends, and missionaries to
Kenya,) my brother Tom and his wife Sharon, as well as
a short visit with our pastor and his wife in Klamath
Falls. God is good!

Carol: Hospitality is keeping me busy.  We had several
guests over the holiday and then with new DTS arrivals
had some guest in over the weekend, so I am busy
cleaning up rooms. My hospitality “office” has a
kitchen, sitting room and office area.  I’ve been
reorganizing the kitchen a little and doing some heavy
cleaning.  Please continue to pray with me regarding
our children’s program that runs with the Crossroads
school.  Our directors are very happy that I want to
direct it so now I am waiting for the leadership team
to review it.  I also am getting drawn into some
English teaching.  Right now on a one on one basis and
in March we have a Korean family coming for the
Crossroads that will need me to help them with their
conversational English, so I’ve been approached to
maybe do a class in March.  Things are beginning to
happen here and I am blessed to see all the
opportunities God is providing for me to serve.  He is
so faithful.

Fred: The correspondence from Crossroad applicants and
inquiries has increased. I expect it will continue to
increase as we get closer to the school in June. I
told Carol today that I feel a bit like a proud
father, as the prospective students commit to apply to
the school.

I finished up the floor in the cafe. I’ll enclose a
picture! and got some painting done in the Dorm. We
have a new DTS (Discipleship Training School)
starting this week. Please pray for these students.
They are facing a challenging time of schooling and
community life.

We had an incident with the truck heater that God used
to speak to me. Perhaps He can speak to you through it
as well. The truck’s heater fan hadn’t been working
since last Spring. It didn’t really matter for the
summer months, but became critical as winter
approached. We bought parts, but couldn’t get it
working properly. Carol had to hold her foot against
it for it to work! (It made her leg sore.) Yesterday,
I took apart the fan motor, and blew the dust out of
it. Amazing! That’s what it needed all along. That’s
when God began to speak to me about keeping the dust
out of my life.

It took extra effort (works) to get the heater fan to
work, (Carol’s foot applying pressure) but when the
dust (sin) was removed, it worked as designed. We
tried fixing the problem with different parts,
(programs or initiatves) but it was simply the dust
that caused the problem.

I don’t know if you have “dust” in areas of your life
that is interupting communication with your loving
Savior, but if there is a problem, it may be a little
“dust” that the Holy Spirit needs access to in order
to blow it away!

Thank you for your prayers, friendship, and support!
Grace and peace to you,
Fred and Carol
