Lykins Update – November 14th, 2007

Dear friends and family,

After a 21 hour travel day, we are back in Salem, and getting back into the swing of things here. Leaving Manila was interesting. We got to the airport about 1:30p.m. and left around 5p.m. for Taipei, Taiwan. Had a few hours layover in Taipei, left around 10:50p.m. I think. In just a few hours, someone opened the shade on the plane, and the sunlight was glaring in. It was like being in another world….sunrise at 2 a.m.! Flying east was interesting in that despite leaving in the evening, and  traveling for the 21 hours, we got to Portland at 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, the same day that we departed!  (The flight there took similar time, but on the calendar it took 3 days! ) It took over a week for our body clocks to get back in sync. Most nights we were awake from 2 a.m. till 6 a.m. It was quite annoying!

The first week back our students attended classes for wrapping up their YWAM time. The speakers spoke on integrating their discoveries into the local church, and also, invited them to consider coming on staff with the mission.

As we have assessed our school, we were reminded that the purpose of our CDTS is to train up missionaries. We left one family, in the Philippines for an additional 8 months. The other family with multiple children are exploring ways to go back long term as soon as January. Several of our single women are looking at continuing on with YWAM as well as the other two couples. Praise God! He is sending out workers into the harvest! And He is allowing us to a part of the equipping!

During the winter here, we will be returning to our staff functions as maintenance (Fred) and Hospitality (Carol). These are the same positions we held last winter. Also, I’ll be corresponding with the applicants for next summer’s CDTS, and Carol will be retooling for the next children’s school, as well as doing a little teaching of English as a second Language.

Carol and I will be speaking at our home church next Sunday morning, Living Faith Fellowship in Klamath Falls. They have been gracious and offered us the entire service. I hope to see many of you there, and get a good squeeze!

Thank you for your continued prayer, love and support! We are blessed to be working with this mission, and are so thankful for our team of supporters. May the Lord multiply back to you for your generous gifting!

We pray you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families! We will be at Carol’s folks (Buckhorn, CA) for Thanksgiving. Count your blessings!

Grace and peace to you,
Fred and Carol
