Lykins Update – December 30th, 2007

Dear Friends and family,
I trust that you have had a good Thanksgiving and Christmas! We are so blessed to have wonderful families and friends!

YWAM Salem has sent six teams on outreach from the fall DTSs (Discipleship Training School.) Some of the locations are Sudan, Thailand, India, Cambodia, Uganda, Alaska, Azerbaijan. While we were in the Philippines, these two schools were training approximately 40 students, mostly American and Korean to go on outreach, and to consider a life of missions.

During early December we were praying for the upcoming Winter DTS. There were only about 5 students signed up…. not enough to make it economically feasible. Now I understand that there are 16 enrolled. Praise God!

Yes, the Arvada YWAM base is a sister base to us. I didn’t know the two YWAMers who were killed, but we were in prayer and followed the story closely. Persecution is not new to Christ’s followers, but when it hits close to home it’s a little scary.

Carol has stepped back into her role as the head of Hospitality for YWAM Salem. She is looking forward to serving our guests (this could be you!) and our staff. We have guest rooms available on a first come first serve basis for a suggested donation of $10 per night. This includes meals when schools are in session. If you’re in the area and need lodging, or if you just want to get away for some R&R, come see us! You can call Carol at 503 951 0060 to reserve your room.

I have been busy with some building projects. Sheetrocking the dining area addition, and rebuilding the deck at the prayer chapel. We have 35 acres and many buildings which need constant attention to stay ahead of the moss and mildew!

While visiting Pastor David and Barbara in Klamath Falls, I read Beth Moore’s book “Get out of that Pit!” What a wonderful teacher! She has written many women’s studies, but this lady needs to be read by the whole body! If you’re tired of lapping the same mountain, get this book!

I know that I’ve promised pictures from our recent outreach, so I’ll attach some here.

The first is a food distribution for neighbors of the Valley Cathedral Children’s home. Each Saturday they give away a meal. On this Saturday we had a puppet show too!

Next is a picture of “Mama Zelma” Carol and I. Mama Zelma founded the children’s home 20 years ago, when she was 63. She is still overseeing the home and school, as well as the 50 churches she helped to start. I hope to be as productive in my 60′s and 70′s.

Last is a picture of some of the children of Valley Cathedral, including Toto, the young man at my left. We have been corresponding. I am privileged to be his “American Dad!”

Thank you for your friendship, prayers and financial support. Your contributions keep us on the front lines! My prayer for you is that you would find that “His mercies are new every morning” for the New Year.

Be blessed,
Lots of love and hugs!
Fred and Carol
