Lykins Update – March 17th 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

Carol and I have been “under the weather” for a few days now. Some kind of flu or cold bug. Friday afternoon she came home and went to bed. She has been there most of the weekend, and today, (Monday.) I felt lousy Saturday afternoon and Sunday, but am feeling a little better today. She is getting it worse than I am. My throat is a little raw, and my back aches when I cough, but my Spirit’s good! Please pray for a rapid recovery for both of us! She told me of a man who works with International students at one of the area’s colleges. He was laid up for a week with the flu. When he called the doctor’s office to make an appointment, he was told there were 9 doctor’s “out sick” with the same stuff!

Carol chose to step down from Hospitality responsibilities this past week. She could not teach in the ELC (English Language and Culture) and head up hospitality. The ELC school is doing well. We have 15 students, all from South Korea. Several of the students visit with us over lunch daily. It’s a great opportunity for them to practice their English. We still have hospitality rooms available though if you need a place to stay while passing through, or visiting the area! Hint, hint.

We are finishing up the “bridge” project. I’ve attached some photos below. This bridge was part of the base for many years, however, about 8 years ago, it was taken down when it needed major repair. This year, we rebuilt it! I think you could drive a car across it now! By the way, the people in the pictures are Ryan Hale, Ryan Shaddy, and 9 year old Kylie Metcalf.

Two weeks ago, the current DTS (Discipleship Training School) had for their speaker Ken Helser. I had never met Ken before, but quickly fell in love with him and his wife Linda. Carol and I got to eat a few meals together with them, and took them out to ice cream. Ken tells a story about his trumpet. He holds it in the air and says “play trumpet! play!” But of course nothing happens. However, when he puts it to his lips, and fills it with his breath, beautiful music comes out! We are like that trumpet. Apart from God, we are nothing. But in His hands, filled with his breath, (filled with his spirit) we can make beautiful music!
If you would like to read more about Ken Helser and his family’s ministry, here is a web site!

Our daughter Amber recently sent me video footage of Ashton (3) dancing. I’ll include the link here, if you have time to check out our “Proud Grands” pictures!

"Use Your Love"

Again, I would like to thank you for praying for us, for loving us, and reading our news updates. Please continue to pray for our physical health, and for our financial health! Our support has dropped off a bit and as we all experience, the cost of living is increasing. We’ve put all of this in the Lord’s hand and ask you to join us in prayer for His perfect provision. We know He can and will meet yours and our needs.

Grace (God’s supernatural empowerment) to you,
Fred and Carol
