Lykins Update – May 28th, 2008

Carol writes:

Another school comes to an end with tearful goodbyes but more lifetime friends. My English Language and Culture teaching experience was challenging as well as a growing experience. I was blessed to teach the Advanced students; 6 wonderful young adults from S. Korea and I was honored to facilitate Bible study and Team Time for the whole group of 14 students. Working with and getting to know this group reminded me of how easy it is to stereo type or limit people when we are stretched with communication and cross cultural barriers. Often, we can miss out on a person’s depth of character and their rich life experiences that can bless our lives. Simply because it’s too difficult (or even impossible) to relate or we don’t take the time to try and understand our “differences”. How blessed we are to have a “common culture” in the body of Christ. His Kingdom comes when we choose relationship regardless of the cost.

Many of these wonderful young adults will return to Korea with tools to cross cultures into a growing Western influence in their country and share Christ’s kingdom. I will never cease praying that my Korean friends will be joyful, grow to maturity and encourage each other so that the God of love and peace will be with them always. (2 Cor. 13:11) Thank you so much for partnering in their lives through your prayers and support!

Fred has been working very hard these past weeks trying to get the new classroom ready for the up-coming quarter. They were going for a June 1 deadline. . . maybe by the grace of God it will be ready by the June 9th class startup date……just maybe. It’s been a battle and literally Fred has scars to show for it. Thank you again for all of your prayers, I know you’ve covered Fred and God’s love and grace has protected him from serious injury. Please keep Fred in your prayers as he is also working in the evening right now (also construction). It’s a blessing with much needed income, but at the same time he is very tired by the end of the day.

This week we will transition full speed into the Crossroads Discipleship Training school. This will be different for me but I think God in his infinite wisdom gave me some preparation through the English Language and Culture school. It still seems strange not to be leading a children’s school this year. We do have one 2 year old that I’m working out a nanny program for and I’m joining with Uriah, our grounds maintenance guy, to revamp our playground. It’s in need of some serious attention. We’ll be staffing with a couple we got to know last year and a new couple. We have a good size student body and a few last minute folks. We’re excited in so many ways and we’re always blessed when the Lord brings us an opportunity to be involved in a ministry together.

We’re looking forward to the summer and we pray all of you are too. I know these are hard times in many ways, times that effect all of us. So we pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13) May all of your summertime hopes and dreams be fulfilled.

Prayer:
CDTS students-visas, finances, safe travel
CDTS staff- we will be unified and “prefer one another” as we get to know each other. Ask God to give us the right words so we can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan, the GOOD NEWS that is for everyone.
Please continue to pray for God’s release of provision for our financial needs.

Grace to you!
Fred and Carol
