Lykins Update ~ April 24th, 2009

Our dear praying friends,

I have been negligent in my writing, please forgive my absence from your monitor! No, we’ve not been away on vacation, but, just negligent in corresponding.

Carol and I traveled to Klamath Falls for Easter week. When we heard that Living Faith Fellowship was planning to perform the “Living Last Supper” we volunteered to help out. Carol and I were participants in the previous two times this drama was shown there.

We had a wonderful and busy week. The back drop had been in storage for 5 years, but was right where we had left it, and was in  good shape. The lines I had memorized twice before were a little more difficult to find, but alas they were located and brought to light. For those of you who did not make it to the Easter service in Klamath Falls, I hope that we can get a “you tube” spot to share with you.

Here at YWAM Salem, we have been active in our current responsibilities. Carol has taken on additional responsibilities as her supervisor Amy McGee is away for a few months. Amy is a work-horse, and Carol has her work cut out for her! She is carrying the additional work well, and appreciates your prayers for strength, wisdom, and graciousness as she deals with the many issues at hand. Also, the Crossroads Discipleship Training School, CDTS will start in June, and we will be staffing that school as well as overseeing the Children’s program, “Children of Destiny”.  I too would so appreciate your prayers for Carol as she learns to balance the “tyranny of the urgent” with the “one thing that’s needed!”

Here in the maintenance crew we completed a long needed foundation drain along our boardwalk offices. We had a moisture problem in the west wall, as it is four feet below grade. We dug a ditch 100 feet long, up to four feet deep by hand, and then painted the block wall with tar, installed a drainage pipe the whole length, then back-filled with 5 yards of river rock. We still need to  complete the back fill with top soil, and replant grass in the appropriate areas.

We have also tilled a large garden plot, fenced it, and planted some vegetables for our appetites! During the winter DTS our Kitchen budget was over $1,200 per week for food, so some fresh veggies should come in handy!

One of my recent jobs was burning the 75′X25′X12′ pile of accumulated brush and tree limbs from this past year. Burning brush during the rainy “burn season” can be quite a chore. “Can we call in a bomber of agent orange?”

We have 7 students so far for our next Crossroads school, so we would appreciate your prayers for a “full compliment” of students. We have been running about 12 students and would love to see the school grow to 20 or more.
Is God calling you to full time missions work? Do you desire additional training in missions? Are you willing to give 5 months of your life to better equip yourself to fulfill His call? Give me a call, and I tell you more! Or check out the web site www.ywamsalem.org

Another ministry possibility that we are cosidering is helping out at the Salem House of Prayer. 24/7 prayer has been filling the heavens here for the past several months, but the live worship is still lacking. So, would He have us join this most important service? Here is a link to their site.  http://www.salemhouseofprayer.org/

Thank you for your faithful prayers and giving. One of our goals for this year was to see  our support increase from the $1,000 per month level to $1,500. (All of YWAM’s missionaries raise their own support as there are no paid positions.)  Therefore our team of supporters who give monthly needed to grow. Praise God for the consistent support, and the one time gifts that have eliminated our credit card debt! If you would like to join our financial support team, or have questions regarding our upcoming needs, please contact us!

Until He takes us home,
Fred and Carol
