WeLykins Update ~ July 10th, 2009

Dear friends and family,

Carol and I had a wonderful visit to Haines, Alaska for Jaime and Matt’s
wedding. When we arrived in Juneau, we were met by a young woman who
verified our identity, then told us that there was a helicopter waiting to
take us to the Mendenhall Glacier…..free! What a treat. It was my first
time on a helicopter, and our first glacier visit. Aside from wearing shorts
and only a light jacket it was a wonderful experience. The four hour ferry
ride to Haines was relaxing. We got to see an eagle and a few humpback
whales too!

We were met at the ferry terminal by Matt’s grandparents, Evan and Marge
Haynes. Wonderful Christian folks, and great hospitality! Thank you Evan and
Marge for opening your home and hearts to us!

Jaime’s wedding was also very beautiful. Matt’s parents live in Haines in
the summer, and the wedding was at their home. My son Alan had been busy
working on the roof to prepare the house for 100 people for the reception.
The wedding was outdoors, the surroundings, trees, meadow and mountains were
stunning. As the bride walked down to aisle the rain came. I was getting
upset with God for raining on Jaime’s special day, but later as I
contemplated it all, I was reminded of a worship song with the line “Heaven
meets Earth with a sloppy wet kiss,” and thought “Wow, God is present,
blessing the union of these two!” I pray that Jaime and Matt Turner have
many more “visitations” from our loving Father!

Here is a link to the song.

We stayed overnight in Seattle with Carol’s nephew Aaron and Laurie who have
three month old twins, Aiden and Lydia. What a treat to see these two
“miracles” of God’s faithfulness, Carol’s parents first great grandchildren.
Aaron  took us to the airport, and met us on our return, Lord bless His
wonderful hospitality!

Along the way home we had lunch with Fred and Linda Zielke in Puyallop, WA.
I first met Fred in Salem in 1992. We spent a year together in Russia in
1993-4, and have kept in touch over the years. His Albanian wife Linda is a
wonderful wife to him and mother of their two boys Daniel and Samuel. Thank
you Father for great friends!

Back in Salem, our school is in the 5th week. God is meeting with us in
wonderful ways. Our adults had an overnight outing downtown. We had to
figure out how to take our back pack and  sleeping bag across town. We were
told to leave all our money at home, and not allowed any charge cards. We
had several scheduled appointments to make. It was kind of a treasure hunt
for adults. We had good times of sharing Christ’s love with many at the bus
stop and in a homeless ministry.

Our children’s program is going camping next week in the Redwoods of
Northern California. Please pray for continued blessing and growth for our
students, Asher 13, and Annabella, 11 Eastburn, and Yenna 13, and Jemin, 11
Lee. It will be our first time to our “favorite spot” in 5 years..

At the YWAM base here we have many opportunities to serve. One of the ways
Carol has been filling her “extra” time is sewing for the many weddings this
summer. Table runners, groom’s vests, bridesmaid dress alterations… she
loves to give and has the skill to share and bless many.

Our outreach this fall is to Tepic, Mexico. Tepic is the home of Yndira
Reese the base director’s wife, as well as Monica Hale our head of
Maintenance, Ryan’s wife. We have had a few outreaches there in the past as
Tepic was targeted by Bruce Stefanic and YWAM Salem in the 1990′s. One of
the families in my CDTS of 1992, Tom and Lynn Wallen also served in Tepic
for a few years, prior to 1992 I believe. Anyway, we have been hearing God
say to revisit some of the past works, and come along side the believers
there.

We praise God for safe travels this summer!
For the Turner family and the bond of marriage that has joined our children
together..
Wonderful friends who feed and shelter us!
The opportunity to speak into people’s lives, encouraging them to fully rely
on the God who knows all, sees all, and LOVES us with  passion!

Please join us in praying for the ones who we met downtown, that His Spirit
would continue to draw them to Himself.
For safe travel and a memorable camping trip for our young students.
For our upcoming outreach to Tepic.

Blessings to you and your loved ones!
