In the mountain village
On Friday morning we drove 4 hours to a village in the mountains. The road led us up, and up a ridge to perhaps 7,000 feet in elevation. The views were amazing, it was as if we were on the top of the world.
We cleaned up a community building in order to show a film there in the evening, then went to dinner with the local pastor in his humble home/church.
In the evening, we took our sound equipment and generator to the schoolyard and played loud music, which attracted the children and many parents of the community as well. After playing soccer, and twirling the children like an airplane our interpreter suggest we perform our drama before the movie started.
So with little notice and without our proper costumes we did our drama. Afterwords Phil gave a brief word and altar call. Of the 150 or so people who came we had about 30 who prayed to receive Christ. Praise Him!
I love village evangelism! I also love village people! The next morning I got up and took a walk about 7am. I was met outside the school we slept in by two boys, Leo,6, and his brother Bernardo, 10. They accompanied me on my walk about town, and showed me their swimming spot on the river, pools and waterfalls cascading down the ravine. I would have loved to swim there if the water had been clearer. It looked green with laundry soap and possibly sewage.
We took a doctor from Tepic who held a free clinic on Friday afternoon as well as Saturday from 9-2. He was busy with a long line of folks who don“t have regular access to a doctor. Ingrid and Phil helped process the people, and give free medicines to those who needed it.There were a few cases of swine flu and dengey fever.
The pastor and his wife have been in ministry for many years, and have started more than 20 churches in the surrounding villages. We enjoyed our time of worship and prayer with his growing church.
This week we will have our final week at the nursing home and drug rehab center. We are praying that the church here will see the need to step up and carry on the ministry to these hurting people.
Thank you for your prayers. It looks like we will be going to Puerto Vallarta next week. Pray for many opportunities to share Christ with the tourists and locals there.
Hugs,
Fred
